I said: "Congressman McDonald, what right do you have to determine that someone's views on an issue should be held as anything other than their right or freedom to dissent on a view? Isn't that right a part of our democracy?" He said: "If you want to have a democracy, you have to get rid of people who have those dissenting views." That was his VERBATIM quote to me, in the presence of one of my attorneys in a confrontational meeting I had with him at a special restaurant. And it was interesting; that was only PART of the conversation. But they turned over that massive file collection to the FBI. There were also [the files from] the Salvadoran death squads. There were the [files from the] rightwing think-tanks which generated reports on U.S. [citizen] groups, [labeling them] as "terrorists", not as people exercising their civil liberties, but anyone who challenged [their policies] was now considered a "terrorist." And those reports were put into the FBI's files and used by the FBI to prosecute dissenters. Most telling: several of those reports were financed by the United States State Department as part of the covert domestic propaganda campaign that we have talked about and which you have outlined. Is that a fair summary of what we have to deal with? ROSS GELBSPAN: I think that's a very fair summary. I think it's a very disturbing picture. It's a very complicated story, unfortunately, but it certainly is a very fair summary. GARY NULL: Well I just want the American Public to understand that, in the eyes of those who are put in the position to protect us from REAL, and not imagined, opposition and enemies, there has been and there is now a covert war against, not just the Central American movement, but against honest and democratic dissent in this country, in general. And I'm concerned that we do not have proper oversight of these agencies, including, specifically, the FBI to make them responsible for their misdeeds and their culpability in supporting what amounts to illegal activities. I want to thank YOU very much, Ross Gelbspan, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, author of "BREAK-INS, DEATH THREATS AND THE FBI" and "THE COVERT WAR AGAINST THE CENTRAL AMERICAN MOVEMENT". I really think that your whole program is very valuable and an interesting concept, and I hope the rest of it goes well. Thank you for this. GARY NULL: At this moment, we're going to be going into Master Control at WBAI. Welcome to our all-day forum. That was just the opening round of what is going to be a formidable day of giving people insights into the nature of how things are done. And if people want to know why I'm concerned about this, it is because, for over twenty years, I have seen articles being sent out and appearing in every major magazine and newspaper, including the New York Times -- repeatedly in the New York Times. They must LOVE the New York Times. It seems to print anything these propaganda organizations would love to do. I hold the New York Times in absolute CONTEMPT for its irresponsible attitude in allowing some of these groups to maliciously attack and denigrate the overall integrity of health movements, considering them as "the other", something other than acceptable. And I have seen their campaigns on "health fraud" -- how to identify a "health quack". ALWAYS the same groups. ALWAYS the same people quoted as the so-called "experts", and given the credibility of continuing to BE quoted. Well sometimes they make mistakes. Yesterday they made a big one! Today, my lawyers are preparing a massive lawsuit because we caught one of them making some out-and-out lies. And that doesn't happen when they go on-the-record. They generally do it in innuendo. But now we got them on one point. And when it does happen, we're ready to move, and move we will. But the trouble is, they work behind the scenes. They can denigrate you. They can denigrate a whole movement: the health movement. And they have enormous power and influence. And I'm suggesting that when you look at what we're really dealing with in our country, we're dealing with individuals who have as their OWN particular agenda the destruction of anything that challenges them. Now they may believe in what they're doing. I don't know. I'm not in their head. But what they're doing is not right. And the misinformation that they project upon the American Public can mean the difference between persons living or dying, frequently. And the mass media has CONSISTENTLY supported that one side. If the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says that something is bad for you, like tryptophane [a constituent of protein, integral to many foods], or that there is no benefit from anti-oxidants, or that there is no relationship between vitamin C and anything -- the mass media has been right up there to write about it. It has taken twenty-five years before we've got even the first door open to show credibility for what we're doing. I'm suggesting that the very same mechanisms, the very SAME techniques are used in ALL of these efforts. As extreme as it may be, consider that people who -- because they're concerned about their health -- change their diet, and who then become concerned about their environment .... those people then find that they are in an FBI surveillance file for having attended an anti-nuclear protest. The powers that be do not seem to distinguish between real and supposed threats. All day we're going to be talking on a lot of different issues. And I mean every single hour will offer a completely different issue. Coming up, I'm going to be talking about ecocide in the U.S.S.R. And then I'm going to talk about many other Chernobyls [nuclear disasters] waiting to happen. Then I'm going to talk about hypocrisies in the Press. Then I'm going to talk about new information, and why I believe that a grand jury investigation is absolutely necessary in the case of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Then we're going to talk about the "Cancer Industry" and corruption, manipulation of the Public's mind and consciouness [directed from] within the "Cancer Industry". Then we'll have a special on AIDS. Then we'll have new information -- and what I consider to be deadly information on genetic engineering. Then we will discuss low-level radiation and new information on cover-ups of low-level radiation leaks. Then we'll discuss electro-magnetic radiation pollution. Those are some of the issues you can expect to hear on this all day special "Hidden Agendas" series. They intend to have us shackled well before we awake from our TV-induced trance. It's not too late to reverse our growing servitude and the future enslavement of our children. But we must act quickly. Turn your eyes away from that flickering, hypnotic boob tube which is their tool for drugging you into a deluded stupor that makes you think that everything is okay. Frequent your library and seek out the books and magazines that you see publicized by conscientious citizens on these computer networks -- books and magazines which their corporate TV and newspapers are careful NOT to advertise. And above all, contact the few legal institutes that realize that the only way to defeat the growing beast of tyranny is for enough citizens to provide the powerful arm needed to wield the sharp sword of Constitutional law against tyranny's onslaught.
